In a move that may make Apple CEO Steve Jobs happy, Pennsylvania Senator Bob Mellow introduced legislation that, according to reports, would prohibit teachers strikes.
According to these media reports, and a report on Mellow’s website, the law would create an eight-month time table for all negotiations. If no deal is reached during that eight month period, the sides would put forth a “last best offer,” which would be submitted to the county’s president judge. The judge then would pick one of the two offers, and the judge’s choice would be final.
The legislation has been introduced before, but never has made it to a vote. Senator mellow apparently believes, however, that there are enough votes in the Senate to secure passage this time. We will see……
